EV ownership
Malaysia EV Road Tax Calculator
Estimate annual LKM for a private battery-electric car from its registered motor power. Includes the applicable 2026 JPJ power band.
How EV road tax is calculated
Use registered motor power
The 2026 private EV schedule assigns a fixed annual LKM fee to each motor-power band. Enter the power in JPJ’s registration record in kW or whole watts. Battery size in kWh, horsepower and advertised peak power are not substitutes. A hybrid is not a battery EV for this calculator.
A small power difference can change the band
100 kW is 100,000 W and costs RM70 per year. At 100.001 kW (100,001 W), the next band costs RM80. At 550 kW, the annual fee is RM2,615. The fee is taken directly from the selected band, not multiplied by power. Rates commenced on 1 January 2026.
When to check with JPJ
This estimate covers ordinary private battery EVs in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. It does not assess island eligibility, special exemptions, e-hailing, commercial use, motorcycles or hybrids. Above 1,010 kW, a published boundary needs clarification. An unsupported result does not mean zero road tax.
